Starbound’s Culture

We aim to build a reputation for impeccable staff care, and strong corporate governance. We firmly believe that we can only attract and retain the best talent if they are happy and motivated, and working for a cause they believe in. Our company culture is built on a foundation of flexibility, transparency, inclusivity, intellectual pride, and ethical integrity. As a remote-first organisation, we hold sacred our staff's flexibility to work from wherever they feel most comfortable. This approach ensures that our team can bring their A-game when they are at their best, free from the constraints of traditional 9-5 office settings. Our development team, for instance, is distributed across different time zones, with key members based in Townsville and London, meeting at mutually convenient times, even if it means Sunday evening calls. We do what works for us, not what's traditional.

Starbound’s Cultural Principles:

We reject the traditional notion of a 9-5 job, trusting our staff to manage their time efficiently to deliver sophisticated tasks. This trust and flexibility are crucial to our culture.

Although still an ambition for our early-stage startup, we are committed to ensuring that our staff salaries are openly advertised, and always above the market rate. This commitment to transparency in salary structure is aimed at hiring and retaining the best and brightest talent.

Both founders being openly neurodivergent themselves, we ensure our company is friendly to neurodivergent individuals. Practices include allowing staff to have their cameras off during internal calls, encouraging deep focus work, and having no dress code in our remote-first setup. We also offer an unlimited PTO policy (within reason). We are proud members of the Australian Space Diversity Alliance (ASDA).

Our founders have a strong track record of incorporating professional development into regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports. This, along with other formal schemes such as dedicated annual training budgets will be a key focus as we grow.

We encourage our staff to openly discuss what they consider ethical corporate behaviour. Our leadership's past experiences with great work cultures and also toxic work cultures fuel our determination to create a positive, ethical work environment from the very beginning. Starbound is our blank canvas to do things right, right from the start.

At Starbound, we are proud to be nerdy, geeky, and intelligent. We celebrate our curiosity and make no excuses for being a company of smart people. This is reflected in our encouragement of esoteric discussions, and our passion for technology and space exploration.

By integrating these principles into our day-to-day operations, Starbound Space Solutions aims to build a reputation as a company with a strong ethical and moral compass that genuinely cares for its staff, while celebrating intellectualism and a love for learning.
